Ex Cathedra

From the Bishop's Chair...
As we reviewed this site we realized a bit more explanation might be necessary on our purpose and effort. Just as we have Christians searching for church homes, there are clergy in Apostolic succession who are looking for a place to feel supported, covered and affirmed. Many of them have no congregation, no "traditional" ministry and no spiritual or episcopal (affiliated with a Bishop) covering. They have a call to a non traditional form of ministry that they understand, but others don't. There are requirements laid on them that are very cumbersome to adhere to and no one is listening to their point of view. This diocese can provide support as long as the clergyman is not under any ecclesiastical discipline or in contention with his present Bishop.
Sometimes we are exposed to circumstances that we hadn't bargained for when we affiliated. In some cases our communion has moved off center to a place where we can no longer accept the tenets and ethos they present. There are many reasons for a clergyman to feel isolated and marginalized, but remain true to his sacred vows "no matter what." Ministry is difficult enough at times, without undue stress and obligations complicating our lives even further.
The Diocese of Missions and Chaplaincy is a non-geographical see that provides spiritual support, episcopal oversight and scriptural fidelity on a partnership basis with clergy seeking a covering for their work within the Anglican tradition. We maintain the traditional structure of Deacons, Priests and Bishops; the Bishop being the first among peers, having the responsibility before God for the governance of the diocese. The authority of the Bishop, derived from Apostolic succession, is implicit. The responsibility of the Bishop before God is what is emphasized.
This is a simple clarification of our vision, not to be taken as an effort to proselytize. We will be the first to encourage any clergyman under Apostolic succession to remain true to his bishop and his sacred vows. If that becomes a difficult place to be, we are here to talk with you. If you are not in Apostolic succession, but are an ordained clergyman, we are also open to discuss a relationship with you.

God's peace and blessing,
